Aciphylla glaucescens one of the larger species of genus Aciphylla. It is native to New Zealand and grows from coastal to low alpine areas, up to 1400 m.a.s.l. It is found from Hikurangi on the east coast of the North Island, to near Foveaux Strait at the bottom of the South Island. It grows mostly along streamsides and on wet or shady banks.
It has a rosette of rigid, tripinnate, glaucous, narrow blue/green leaves up to a metre long, with long narrow leaflets with spiky tips.
It produces 1.8 m golden flower spikes in summer. Winged schizocarps are dispersed primarily by wind.
